Portrait Images Lighting

 Portraits which inspired me
I was assigned by Sue, to do some research on portrait photography and I had a really creative. I wanted to do an experiment. I wanted to combine three different things, into one picture. I would need a model or I could do this myself and have some assistance, I would add my love for nature and its prints and natural art and my interest in different lighting photography and use them all in one picture. I went on the web and did some research to see how I could achieve this. I couldnt find anyone that had achieved this or examples so instead I have three different images of what my final images should represent.

With these three combined, I will create my final portrait pictures and explain a little about my experience when attempting to achieve this effect. Here are a few of my final pictures that I had taken once I finished experimenting and adding my creativity insight into the photography. As I was working by myself and had no help, I still managed to find a photographer so I prepared my set, put my camera on the right settings and had assitance with taking the photographs as I modelled myself.

In this image, I have used a lot of exposure to keep it looking mysterious and to show the expressions on my face. I also used a fan for an even more mystical effect. I put a light infront of me and used a plant to achieve the jungle looking shadow effect. I put the plant infront of the light to reflect its different shapes then stood in the shadows of the plant and light. It is almost like a projection effect yet this was achieved with playing around with shadows instead.

In this picture, I decided to use a close up shot as again, I wanted the expressions to show, yet I didnt want to use too much exposure as I wanted to play with contrast and lighting. This time, I used two different lights. One in front of me and one on the side. I then covered the lights with different coloured plastic reflectors one red and one blue and managed to achieve this amazing look. Because there was no light coming from my other side, this remained dark and where the light hits on my face is more the angle of where the lights were placed. I then edited this picture to emphasize the contrast of the two colours but also light and dark at the same time. It alsmost has a silhouette effect but can still see half of my features.

This picture was acheived by having the light behind me instead of infront, creating a silhouette effect on my face. I then took another picture from behind where the light was shining and in the editing process, put them together. From far, it looks like one picture but they are infact two different pictures. They also both have different effects used and were put togther quite creatively. This was my favourite shot so far.

These two images above are ones that were taken when I used the coloured plastic to change the colour of the lights. They are not final images, but just an example of how good the two lights blended together to create a euphoric background and sensational effect.

Finally, this also is from one of the effects used above. This is when I made a final picture out of two different pictures. I had the light shine directly on one side of my face so the other was quite dark.
