Comissioning Editors Job

Commissioning Editor International Programming you  undertake the role for of Commissioning Editor for the following TV channels:

            ITV 2
            ITV 4

Your role as Commissioning Editor for International Programming will be to purchase programmes for both TV channels.  Your choices must be suitable for the target audience and channel brand.
Firstly, you must investigate both channels to find out the difference between them, who the target audience is and the channel brand.

Commissioning Editor Task

Here is list of programmes you must make the decision to purchase for either channel or discard.  Please note which channel you are purchasing for and justify your decision.

Programme 1 – The Cape

THE CAPE
"The Cape" is a one-hour drama series starring David Lyons ("ER") as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force, who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. He is forced into hiding, leaving behind his wife, Dana (Jennifer Ferrin, "Life on Mars") and son, Trip (Ryan Wynott, "Flash Forward"). Fuelled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken Palm City, Faraday becomes "The Cape" his son's favourite comic book superhero -- and takes the law into his own hands.

Commission Editor Decision:

For this program, I would personally have it air on ITV2 as there has been a similar program aired on this channel such as ‘Heroes’ The majority of people whom watch BBC2 are better suited for this as they are an older audience. I would want to air this programme at around 8pm as this is the time the majority of people whom work are at home. 92% of people who watched Heroes enjoyed it and I feel as though if this was to air on ITV2 the same audience would enjoy watching it.

FRIEND'S WITH BENEFITS

Programme 2 Friend’s with Benefits

From Oscar and Emmy winner Brian Grazer ("A Beautiful Mind," "Arrested Development"), "Friends With Benefits" is a half-hour comedy revolving around a group of twenty-something singles as they navigate the difficult, and often confusing, world of dating. Ben Weymouth (Ryan Hansen, "Party Down") is on the hunt for the perfect woman who meets his unique set of standards, while his best friend, Sara Maxwell (Danneel Harris, "One Tree Hill"), is just looking for a man to settle down with and raise a family. Ben and Sara have fallen into the habit of turning to each other for moral and physical support as they wait for Mr. and Ms. Right to arrive. Their friend Aaron (Fran Kranz, "Dollhouse"), a romantic at heart, doesn't approve of Ben and Sara's complicated friendship, but he, along with womanizer Hoon (Ian Reed Kesler) and straight shooter Riley (Jessica Lucas, "Cloverfield"), are all distracted with their own dating trials and tribulations.

Commission Editor Decision:

For this program, I would personally have it air on IT2 as it is more of an adult comedy for people aged 18-35. This program has the same sense of humour as ‘Two Broke girls’ and ‘Ugly betty’ which personally makes me feel as though ITV2 would be the most ideal channel to air it on. 99/100 people whom watch Ugly Betty and Two Broke girls said they watched it for the sole fact that of the humour it has. So I feel that the same audience will have a huge interest in watching Friends with Benefits. Although e4 is a different channel, it has the same audience as e4.

Programme 3  Harry’s Law

HARRY'S LAW
Harriet (Bates), Matthew (Ben Chaplin, "Me and Orson Welles") and Malcolm (Aml Ameen, "Kidulthood") couldn't be any more different. Harriet is a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer who, having just been fired from her cushy job, is completely disillusioned with her success and looking for a fresh start. Her world unexpectedly collides with Malcolm's -- a young man trying to figure out life. When he finds out Harriet is a lawyer, he begs her to represent him in an upcoming criminal case. Matthew, a dreamer at heart and also recently fired from his job as a high school teacher, is introduced to Harriet through Malcolm, a previous student of his. When these three cross paths, they realize they're all looking for a fresh start. Now, the most unlikely of people are starting a law practice in the most unlikely of places -- a rundown shoe store. "Harry's Law" also stars Brittany Snow ("Hairspray") as Harriet's assistant, Jenna Backstrom and Beatrice Rosen ("Dark Knight") as Eve, a high school French teacher.

Commission Editor Decision:

For Harry’s Law, I would air this on both channels as it could have a very diverse audience and relate to both older and younger demographics. I would air this on ITV4 for the younger audience as it is more of a thriller and people from this age group tend to be more interested in watching thriller program’s such as Vampire Diaries. However, I would also want to air this on ITV2 because there are various gun shooting scenes which this audience prefer to watch. There is also very light entertainment which the older demographic have a preference for.

Programme 4 Love Bites

LOVE BITES
Becki Newton ("Ugly Betty") stars as Annie and Jordana Spiro ("My Boys") stars as Frannie, the last two single girls standing after all of their friends get married. Annie is an infectiously bubbly optimist and Frannie is an always-a-bridesmaid realist. Their story will anchor the series, while other romantically-challenged characters will come and go each week.

Commission Editor Decision:

For Love Bite, I would personally want to air this on ITV2 because it has a younger audience appeal. It is about two young single girls and has a lot of romance involvement. Younger people tend to relate to this more as it is said that 85% of 16-35 year olds are interested in program’s about love and romance. The majority being girls, I feel that this program would be best suited for ITV2.

Programme 5 UnderCovers

UNDERCOVERS
Wednesdays on NBC (8-9 p.m. ET)
"Undercovers" is a sexy, fun, action-packed spy drama that proves once and for all that marriage is still the world's most dangerous partnership. Outwardly, Steven Bloom (Boris Kodjoe, "Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion," "Soul Food," "Resident Evil: Afterlife") and his wife, Samantha (Gugu Mbatha-Raw, "Doctor Who," "Bonekickers"), are a typical married couple who own a small catering company in Los Angeles and are helped by Samantha's easily frazzled younger sister, Lizzy (Jessica Parker Kennedy, "Smallville").

Commission Editor Decision:

For this program, I would personally recommend it air on both channels as it involves a lot of Thriller and Romance. Again, the romance will attract a younger audience for ITV2 where as the Thriller of the program, will reach out more to an older audience making it ideal to air on ITV4. The characters in this program are quite old also, making it relatively easy to connect to an older audience which is why I think it would be better suited for iTV4 however, I still believe that it can be aired on iTV2 also.

Programme 6 Mr Sunshine

MR. SUNSHINE | Midseason

The Sunshine Center has seen better days, but then again, so has Ben. Ben's unpredictable boss Crystal is the head of this little dysfunctional workplace family. Ben's not-quite girlfriend Alice is the heart and mouth of the place. She handles PR. His nemesis at The Sunshine Center is Alonzo, who competes with him for Alice's affection. Alonzo is smooth, attentive, and committed basically everything that Ben isn't at least not yet. Luckily, Ben also has an unlikely confidant and ally in Crystal's unmotivated son Roman. Roman's not much good at work, but he's a heck of a listener.

Commission Editor Decision:

For Mr Sunshine, I think this would be better if aired on ITV4 as it is based more around family and work. ITV4s audience are best suited for this as there has been similar programs air on ITV4 such as Lonesome Dove. The 74% of people whom watch this programme watch it for the storyline and I think the audience of ITV4 prefer a program with an actual storyline and something you can follow rather than a light entertainment.

Programme 7 Detroit 187

DETROIT 187 | Tuesdays on ABC (10-11 p.m. ET)

What does it take to be a detective on America's most dangerous streets? Get ready to be part of the action when a documentary crew rolls with some of Detroit's finest, offering an insider's glimpse behind the curtain of a Homicide Unit. The cameras unearth the crisis and revelation, heartbreak and heroism of these inner city cops -- moments of raw exposure when they address us directly, as well as private moments when they forget they're being filmed.

Commission Editor Decision:

For this program, I personally think that it would be better suited for ITV4 as there is a lot of Crime involved in this program. There also seems be a lot of thriller in this program which again, is better suited for ITV4 viewers. According to statistics, on average 89% of the ITV4 audience, are more likely to watch a program if it is a thriller as they enjoy program's that require a lot of concentration and something to follow. When I watched this program, I couldn't make a final decision as to which channel this would be better suited for. This program involves a lot of different styles. There is light entertainment, adult comedy yet the rawness reaches out to a youth audience making it suitable to air on ITV2 too.

Programme 8 Ride-Along

RIDE-ALONG
The new drama scheduled for a midseason debut is RIDE-ALONG. From creator Shawn Ryan (“The Shield,” “The Unit”), the fast-paced series, shot on location in Chicago and starring Jason Clarke (“Public Enemies”), Jennifer Beals (LIE TO ME) and Delroy Lindo (“Kidnapped”), will take audiences on an unflinching and unpredictable ride through the streets of Chicago to navigate crime and corruption with the most respected – and notorious – cops in the city.

Commission Editor Decision:

This program is very thriller, not in context but it is quite notorious. With gun signs and involvement in crime, I think this program most relates to CSI. The second most popular program on ITV is CSI with a huge 77% of viewers that ITV has, watch CSI. This program is a lot like that so I feel te best program for it to be aired is ITV2.

Critical Approaches - Audience Theory

Critical Approaches
Audience Theory

TV program's and shows appeal to different kinds of audiences. Over the years, we have opened up to more discoveries of different types of shows and different formats such as Game shows, reality TV shows etc. Program's tend to have an ideal demographic or specific audience in which they aim to relate to. This can be from culture, age to religion and social background. In order to succeed in attaining your ideal target audience, it is crucial that the airing time fits well. For example, if I were aiming to air ‘Family guy’ whom airs on BBC Three, I would not air it on a Monday at midday. I wouldn’t have the attention of my full audience. Time slot is vital. The audience for ‘Family Guy’ would most likely be watching TV on a weekday or weekend but at a later time. Therefore, this is what they have done and has it play every night at 10pm.

The reason audiences watch what they watch could come from many different theory’s. Audiences such as the hypodermic needle model this being used to inject information from a show or program and inserting it into an audiences brain , can be used to describe program's that air on TV and are extremely addictive to watch. This being, may be because it is on a specific time weekly or daily with an occurring storyline or the program's have been designed to create suspense or drama, captivating the audience’s attention keeping the audience keen and eager to keep watching. TV program's can heavily influence an audience’s behavior  For example, viewers that may watch a show such as ‘The Valleys’ may try to act like the people there by behaving like fools and not caring and constantly partying and using abusive language. Or audiences who may watch ‘Bad Girls Club’ may want to be just as tough as the girls on there and start fighting and cursing the way the girls do on the show. This means the program has a negative effect on the audience because they are behaving in a manic manor which could lead to conflict and even legal action if the audience was to get into a serious fight. The audience may also not know that there are security men following the girls on the show everywhere they are just to assure that nobody is dangerously hurt.

The hypodermic needle model not only forces an audience to repetitively watch the show that has been prescribed to them. It can also have a different effect on an audience and change their behavior for the better. Different program's may have a common theme in which the audience may well just respond well to. Uses and gratifications theory is a lot more sympathetic than the Hypodermic needle model. This theory, take the audience into consideration and thinks about the outcome of how the audience may well respond to the program and the effect it may have on them. It raises the question of what people do with the media and talks about why people watch the program that they do, it gives the audience a freedom of speech and a decision being able to choose what they like to watch for what reasons such as personal identity, knowledge, social companionship, diversion, relaxation and escape. People chose watch to watch by their satisfaction of personal needs. They may chose to watch an inspiring program to make them feel better or a funny program to make them feel better. It is a theory which depends mostly on the audiences taste and decision.

The program ‘Ugly Betty’ provides a fashionable knowledge and inside interest of the world of fashion and magazine to their audiences. Although it is about a business, it provides drama, romance and comedy making it incredibly entertaining for the audience as it already provides their interest which is fashion, but adds all the extra content to make it that little bit more exciting to watch. ‘Ugly Betty’ is a good example of the Uses and gratifications theory where the audience makes the decision and decides on whether the program meets their needs or not.
Audiences can now use technology to access different formats of media. One popular way is online players such as 4OD or IPlayer. These allow audiences to download or watch an episode that they may have missed, for free. They can be done through many different devices such as smart phones, laptops or tablets. This gives the audience the opportunity of watching what they want when they want and a way to access their favorite shows.

Going back to explanations, here are more examples of different theories..

Personal Identity = Often, people tend to watch something to add to their personality or character.

Surveillance = Often, people tend to watch program's about more factual things in order to find out more and expand their knowledge.

Entertainment = Often, people tend to watch TV for entertainment purposes. Either because it is fun or to just pass time.

Personal Relationships = Often, people tend to watch program's just to fit in with the people around them and find a common interest with someone else. This could be through culture, social group or community.

The receptive theory is more about how a specific group may see something. People may be offended or disagree with what it is they are watching. This can also include personal identity as some people may not be able to handle a situation that someone else can whether this being because it offends their image, culture or social reputation. A good example of this are Muslims people. Muslims are people whom follow the religion of Islam. If something is shown in a negative light, Muslims will be offended because there has already been a lot of talk of Islamic people in negative light.

The effects debate argues with the impact in which a character or story may have on someone. This theory means, that if people are continuously seeing people doing wrong things such as selling drugs, shooting people or men mistreating women in shows and films, they will be influenced and what to do something of similar action. For example, In most music videos we see rappers surrounded by naked ladies treating them with no respect and selling drugs. A young boy watching this, will want to follow in his footsteps because he will see how much the drugs, money and girls are being glamourised.

Critical Approaches - Weekend Prime Time

Critical Approaches
Weekend Prime Time

Audiences can be measured in many different ways by programme commissioners. This may be done by qualitative or quantitative methods. Qualitative research for TV figures, can be done by holding things such as focus groups where they may have a selection of a specific audience and ask them a few questions, or a questionnaire where they may hand out a sheet of different questions to many different people or audience profiling. Audiences are often broken into different categories such as socio-economic status, age or gender. Al stands for Audience appreciation index. It grades audiences out of 100 showing the public appreciation for a programme on the TV or Radio in the UK. Before the year 2002, BARB often calculated this however, it is now part on an online Television Appreciation survey on behalf of the BBC Audience Research Unit. Since June 2011, BBC TV Programmes have received Al ratings of 82. An average Al for a drama programme via BBC One and ITV1 is 84. Any Al measures of 90 and above are considered exceptional, leaving 85 to be excellent. However, any Al that measures 60 or below is poor leaving anything below 55 as very poor.

BARB stands for Broadcasters Audience Research Board which collects audience measurements and ratings from TV in the UK. BARB also measures Quantitative audience research. It is estimated that around 5100 homes all have a box in which their TV monitors all the programmes that are being watched in the household.

Over the years, there has been a constant figure battle between ITV1 and BBC1 on Saturday and Sunday night prime time. Here is the most popular two shows that are battling for views on the weekend by both channels.

Saturday & Sunday figures
Overnight figures
Official figures
ITV 1
Britain’s Got Talent
9.23 million
9.585 million
BBC1
The voice
6.67 million
7.817 million

For TV companies’, having a large viewing figure is ideal and can be very beneficial. It is also important for TV advertising to have larger viewing figures as without them, attaining or attracting advertisers would not be enough to generate enough revenue. ITV has a lot to live up to by their audiences. It is vital that they attract a massive viewing figure as a broader audience, means a high paying advertiser. However, for the BBC it is important they are able to bring in a wider audience as they need to prove to the government that they are able to successfully do this so that they can petition for a higher TV license fee. Prime Time is usually between 6pm and 10.30pm. This is the time where shows seem to be most popular and are screened with the highest audience count. Times may also vary with what specific audience. For example, from the times 6-7pm this may be a more popular time for families to watch or older couples. However, times from 8pm onwards, would more likely be watched by the younger generation aged 16 plus. Channels often use Prime Time to guide them as to what programmes should be airing and at what time. On Saturday nights, the programmes that tend to air are ‘Britain’s got Talent’ and ‘The Voice’ this is because it is called light entertainment meaning, if you are occupied with something else during the airing time of these shows, you are able to easily come back and catch up with the episode you have missed. However on Sundays, they tend to air more script dramas as Sunday nights are more relaxed and audiences tend to be at home. They use programmes that need your attention to watch, rather than a light entertainment which can be watched quite easily.

The graphs below show the battle rating between The Voice and Britain’s got Talent defined by difference of age and gender demographic.

As we can see through the charts, both program's even with both sexes are exactly the same. However, The Voice and Britain's got Talent is most popular with the female audience.

Both program's are watched by different audiences. This includes different age ranges. Both program's have different results. For example, for both programs we can see that 16-34 year olds are the most popular audience. Britain's got talent on the other hand, is watched by 4-15 year olds whilst The Voice's most unpopular audience is 55-64 year olds. Britain's got talent is therefore, more popular.

Critical Approaches - Film Review

Critical Approaches
Film Review

In this Film review, I will be discussing two different films in which there is a lot of stereotypical nature. The two films I will be discussing are ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘The Breakfast Club’.  The first film is an American film, which is a comedic film. It is about a group of ‘popular’ girls, facing problems as they are introduced to a new girl and attempt to try and get a new girl of different nature, to fit into their ‘popular’ group. The second film is also an American film and is about a group of students that have been put into detention all for different reasons and learn different things from each other as they misbehave in the detention. Both of these films are narrative structure as they include a beginning, middle and end. We are introduced to the characters in the beginning, we are faced with problems in the middle and we see the outcome of the problems in the end and how they manage to pull through the different situations.

In ‘Mean Girls’, we are introduced to the popular girls one by showing us the lifestyle that each one holds.  This is a teen genre and don’t have scene that are of parental advisory. The society in ‘Mean Girls’ is more suburban America. All the character live an easy lifestyle surrounded with nice houses, cars and people. In ‘Mean Girls’, there is a lot of stereo typical behaviour. Not only are these ‘popular’ girls the ones with all the nice things, but as we go through the movie, which is based in a high school. We realise that they are not the only ones who have been stereotyped. In the high school, there are different categories. We see the ‘Emo’ group, the ‘Geeks’, the ‘Footballers’ and the ‘Cheerleaders’. The target audience for this film is mainly teenagers as it plays such a common ‘teenage lifestyle’. Like the teenagers of today, they all face problems with physical appearance, fitting in and friends. This film plays on that and includes as much of these problems in the film, as they can.

In ‘The Breakfast Club’, we are again, introduced to all the different characters that may have to put up with each other for a very long time during detention. Each character is introduced in a car as they are dropped off. However, we automatically have an idea in our heads of what kind of background the character may come from. This is another film in which we see a stereo typical nature. We have a ‘Bad Boy’ that doesn’t care about anything, The ‘Frigid’ girl that is popular, but innocent. The nerd who wants to be popular and the weird girl whom is trying to find herself. However, in the end we discover that they all have a common interest or relation which is their parents.  They have all had to face obstacles in which they discuss at the very end and come together as one and confess. Throughout the film, we see the stereotypical behaviour of each character. The way in which they speak to each other, down to what they choose to eat for their break, defines their character in such a stereotypical way. The ‘popular footballer’ eats the most out of the group, the ‘popular girl’ eats the most rich food and the ‘Gothic girl’ combines several different types of food in a vile manor and downs with a fizzy drink.

Both these films that I have discussed, issue the topic of stereotype in teenagers in America. The films introduce us to the characters and we see each individual social group and how they deal with obstacles they may come across. Both of these films still have different genres. In ‘Mean Girls’, it is more comedy whereas in ‘The Breakfast Club’, it is more based around Drama.

Red Nose Day Evaluation

RND Show Evaluation

The aim of this assignment was to provide learners with the understanding, knowledge and skills required to manage the production of a media product from the initial through to completion. We were assigned to each come up with ideas for a Games show, a Comedy insert, a chosen Charity and a live Item to showcase in our Red Nose Day Show. I decided to focus on a charity for Homeless people and wanted to raise awareness and money for those on the streets and at the same time, attain some experience in holding a show. My role in this task was the Presenter and assistant Producer. In the pre-production it was my task to call meetings, assure that the Producer had all the right documents and that all participants in the group were completing the set tasks. I also had the role of the Presenter. In the preparation for the show, my job was to write out a script, memorise it and lead the whole show by interacting with the audience and making sure that all my groups work was being presented in the best way possible.

When it was time to do the final show, I felt my group and I were confident about doing so. We had prepared in time and were confident in the pre production work which we all helped do so our time management skills were of excellent standard. Although, I was quite happy with the pre-production and putting on the actual live show and performing to an audience, I felt as though there were things I disliked whilst completing the assignment. One thing I disliked was the lack of communication with organisations when attempting to call them up for information or answers. As we chose our final charity, it was my task to call up the charity and ask for permission from them to use their name and organisation for our Live Show. The charity were very delayed with contact and I did not receive any of the emails I had sent out to them, meaning I was delayed myself in completing my tasks set. Although this problem had occurred, I called up a meeting with my team to try and resolve the situation and we all came to the decision of having to find another charity to support. Although this was completed very last minute, we were able to overcome this issue before the Show. One thing I also disliked about the final show was the fact that our vision mixer had forgotten to press record when we started our show, meaning there was no recorded evidence or footage to re-watch the show. However, I still remember how well it went for us and how well the audience reacted to our show. I was extremely satisfied with this.

This now leads me to what I enjoyed about the final show. When I appeared in front of the crowd, they did not look interested however I managed to use my communication skills and techniques to liven up the audience. I told a few jokes and interacted with the audience for their attention. My group was the lucky group that got to announce winners from a competition that the audience have been competing in, making it beneficial for me as that meant even more interaction with the audience. What I also loved about our final show for Red Nose Day, was the response we had received from colleagues and audience members some even saying ours was the best out of all the other shows. I enjoyed introducing the shows and presenting in between as this is my strongest asset.

If I could change one thing about the show it would be to definitely double check all the cameras were working and the vision mixer had in fact recorded the show we produced. I would also change the structure of our show as I felt the inserts could have been shown in a different order to assure we were keeping our audience on their feet.

In conclusion, I am satisfied with my final project and feel that it has been a success. I have learnt how to interact more with an audience and how to be more confident on live shows as I experience these as the projects go. I have learnt how to deal with issues when they occur finally how to sell an organisation to an audience and feed them with knowledge professionally but fun at the same time. I look forward to doing more projects like this in the near future as I feel I have now conquered the rules of how to put on a live show.

Research on Red Nose Day and The Audience

Research on RND and the Audiences.

Red Nose Day is an extremely popular charity organisation. This means that their audiences by far, are the biggest. By having such a capacious audience, it should be able to offer a Live Show which can be responsive to all demographics.

With this being said, they initially do attempt to attract all ages from children to pensioners by presenting a wide range of different things for example; a common theme in the Red Nose Day Live Shows is that the host of the hit children’s TV show ‘Blue Peter’ is the one advertising the cause, which helps the children reach out to their parents to make a donation. On the show, they also target the older generation by involving some of the most popular shows and program's on British television to support the cause; in addition, to target teens Red Nose Day also reaches out to celebrities which influences the younger teenage generation to make a donation
Whom will my target audience be and why?
My final chosen demographic for my Live Show, will be people from the ages of 16+ mainly because my biggest task in the Live Show will be preparing the Inserts and for my insert I have decided I want to make a comedic Music Video. I wanted to do this because I strongly believe that the younger generation are less likely to make a donation, however if I am able to reach out to them myself they may feel that they can relate better and by doing my music video, I hope that this will make our foundation seem more ‘Modern’.

I didn’t feel the need to make an insert that could relate to any other age range or specific social group, as doing some research on Red Nose Day, the majority of donations that do come in, tend to be from an older age. Therefore, I decided to focus on how my group and I could be tactful and aim for those whom don’t tend to put in a donation for Red Nose Day and hope for success on this. Although this age group is my main focus, I will still focus on being able to reach out to all types of audiences so I will hold meetings with my team and assure that all inserts being put into the final show can relate to different demographics.

Is the DVD dead?

There are many different features on DVDs, you have a selection of Titles and a menu when you first put a DVD in a DVD player. This allows you to have a selection of which section of the DVD, you would like to see first.

When opening up a DVD there is usually a copy right protection warning. This is to ensure that the DVD you have purchased, is not in fact a pirate copy. There are many different functions on a DVD, for example; storing information in digital form, menu options, animations

A DVD can hold up to 4.7gb of data per layer. DVDs nowadays are commonly used to either store specific files onto the hardware for example; movies, where they may later want to recollect these files or just to store pictures or music to keep as memories for example; a wedding or childhood memories. DVDs may not have such a big future as there has been a lot of competition and upgrade in the market where DVDs are loosing their value. Some of the threats to DVDs are downloading and streaming. These are both ways of receiving things such as music or films, for free. Therefore, it has become more popular that people are more interested in downloading than purchasing a DVD. Blu-ray players are now being installed as standard in our consoles & computers making it another threat to DVDs. The surprising factor is that DVD's are cheap to process so film companies often give a free DVD version of a movie with Blu-ray purchases. This will ensure DVDs still have relevance. There's now new innovative technology that allows you to stream movies from the web & watch straight away making it the fastest way to watch movies on demand for example 'Netflix' 'Love-film'. Even though the new streaming of movies is simple DVDs has the strength of memory, film fans will always buy movies they're interested in & want to see how it's made or even alternate scenes that streaming services don't offer.

I still think that DVDs are unique as when the DVD was first introduced, the advantage of the DVD was its memory capacity compared to the cassette. Video cassettes only holding 90 minutes of specific recorded footage. DVD's however are able to hold 4.7GB of digital memory the equivalent to 5 movies on total.  This extra memory left great advantages for example more footage about behind the scene on how the film was made, interviews & commentaries. The extra memory also gave you the option to watch movies in other languages & subtitles.

DVDs are still very unique, they are portable and cheap to use. DVDs are popular and are used all over the world. In some cases, DVDs are in fact more popular in specific countries as appose to others as the way of life may not be as high-tech as Europe for example.

Copy A Photo You Love

I was assigned by Sue, to find a picture I love and Re-create it. As I have a big passion about Modelling and Fashion, I decided I wanted to focus on Cat-Walk Photography. Here are some images I have come across that have inspired my final chose image..

I love how the lighting looks in final images of catwalks. The lighting is creative and plays off of each other. This is something I want to ensure I include in my final picture.

I love how the model is placed in a silhouette effect along with the lights in the back and also the audience being blacked out. This is a long shot but more zoomed in as we see nothing but the model and the background.

This picture drew me into deep fascination. There is a lot of symmetry involved in catwalk photography. I want to ensure that this is also included in the final picture that I myself take.

Finally, this is the picture that I have decided to imitate. I want my picture to be of an angle, with the same lighting. However, in my picture I'd like to slightly change something, instead of me including just one model I would like to have a picture of all the models in shot as I feel this will look more creative and add character to my picture

This is my final picture. I headed down to London Fashion Week and took this image as I watched the models comedown. I have included lighting, the symmetry and models in my picture all from an angle just like I had originally planned.

My Magazine Section

I decided to go with the overall theme of London's Fashion Week. Whilst taking place and having a few tickets to go and witness some of the shows, I thought I would take advantage and be on the lookout for some pretty outstanding outfits to photograph and enter into the 'Magazine competition'. For the first day, I had to stick to taking pictures on my iPhone however when I returned, I had bought a camera with me for some clearer shots.
I will be submitting and evaluating all my photos in this particular page.

By making London Fashion week my theme, I had also remembered that I mentioned I would be splitting my theme into two different categories. I went over my pictures and tried to find two things that stood out the most to put in different categories. But instead, I decided I would make my magazine entry a little more exciting.

I will blog about Men's fashion and Women's fashion. Those will be my final two categories. By doing so, this will give me the chance for a response from my readers and for them to vote as to whom they thought dressed better for London Fashion Week.. Men or Women?

Here are my final pictures...

MENS FASHION

Francis Burke 24
Wearing his own designs.
The reason I picked Francis is because he pulls of a high fashion yet sophisticated vintage look. The coral colours and the blue material of his ensemble work like a piece of art. He says "My Beard is like my accessory.. It completes my look" I gave Francis a 9/10 for this look.

Yoohan Lee
27 years old.
Wearing: A thrift Jacket and white suitcase
Yoohan stood out with his white outfit. He immediately stood out as he was rocking this futuristic look. He says his inspiration is Will.I.Am and he loves wearing white as he passionately believes you cannot go wrong with white. I gave Yoohan an 8/10

Brady Colshire. 23 Years old. Brady has also decided to follow the route of sophistication by layering his outfit in a beautiful suit jacket. He says "Big Jackets can make anything look sophisticated and they are really in not only with fashion but handy with British weather too" I gave Brady a 6/10 for this look.

Kevin Yan. 22 years old. This is definitely one of my most favorite looks of the day. He has mixed Urban with High end fashion and made it work. Kevin wears all black with a few spiked Loubitons to match his spiked cap. He says "I inspire myself" I have given Kevins look a 10/10.

Ti Yoon. 26 years old. Ti brings his Japenese fashion along with him to LFW as he shows off some of the items he has designed himself. He says "Less is more" Ti creates his clothes on the base of mixing culture and modern fashion. He also says "I go nowhere without my bag, my bag is my biggest accessory" I have given Ti a 6/10 for this outfit.

Pier Thompson. 20 years old. Model. Pier has gone for the sophisticated jacket. He explains "Shoes are very important. You can look at a person's shoes and tell what kind of person they are" He is a very big jacket man. He says his inspiration is Michael Jackson and his favorite designer is Tommy Hilfiger. I gave Pier a 6/10.

Jordan Roberto. 19 years old.
Jordan is wearing clothes from the High street. He says "The clothes dont make the people, the people make the clothes" He enjoys styling himself and does a lot of personal shopping for other people. He says he is inspired by categories that people are put in so he likes to dress more 'urban'. I gave Jordan a 7/10.

WOMENS FASHION.

Lisa Simmons. 22 years old. There's no surprise saying why Lisa stood out for me. In her yummy lime green glasses and crop top. She throws on an over-sized distressed denim shirt. Her tall gold heels worked in perfect harmony with the outfit and complimented her look greatly. Lisa is a model and 'has an obsession with fashion' she pulls this outfit off so well. I gave Lisa a 9/10 for this look.

Olivia Rose. 22 years old. Student. A high waist leather skirt pushed away by an oversized mirror style jumper. Olivia works her black and silver outfit and outshines. She studies fashion and is wearing a piece she made on her final exam and says "I started making clothes and I just couldn't stop" Her metallic look also makes her outfit look futuristic. I gave Olivia a 5/10 for this look.

Rosella White. 23 years old. Blogger. Rosella's one of the most interesting looks I had seen on this day by far. She has managed to pull of a 'boyish style' but still look feminine. She wears beige baggy jeans with a blazer she had purchased from a Charity shop and wears a printed designer shirt. She adds heels to make the look more feminine. He black see-through shirt softens the colours combined and makes them work well together, complimenting her look. I gave Rosella a 10/10 for this look.

Lucy and Megan. 23 years. Students. The girls say black is their favorite thing to wear you can never go wrong with Black and it also compliments the figure and looks slimming. Megan wears a beautiful fur jacket over her high waist leather skirt and platformed sandals with tights to add length. Playing with texture but keeping one colour. Whilst Lucy wears a frilly skirt along with a sequined t-shirt topped with a fur and leather jacket. I gave the girls a 7/10 for this look.

Lauren Polaski. 27. Fashion designer. Lauren has also decided to go with an all black outfit but to add a little colour she has thrown on a designer Tee. Her look is simple yet effective. I have given Lauren an 8/10

Natalie Markey. 27 years old. Natalie says her boyfriend Jordan is what inspires her looks. They both dress alike and love their outfits to work well together. Natalie has gone for quite a casual look here but makes her outfit more quirky by adding some cool ear pieces and jewelry to make her stand out more. I have given Natalie a 5/10.

Who's fashion was better? Men's or Women's..
