In this lesson, Sue has taught us how to use L.E.D lights, to create really effective pictures. I experimented with the camera, time and lights to create a few dynamic and creative shots! Once I became more familiar with how L.E.D lights worked, I decided to work with other people to create a few pictures where we were able to use 2 L.E.D lights at once.

Here are some examples of existing pictures where photographers have used L.E.D lights to create cool pictures.
After doing more research on L.E.D lighting, I tried experimenting with my lights and attempted to recreate some of the pictures like above and even make them more unique! Here are a few examples of my experience and creativity when using L.E.D lights.
I loved the ball examples that I found when finding examples of L.E.D photography and wanted to try and recreate it. However, after many attempts of trying to perfect my circle I soon discovered that I may had to use more lights or have more room to perfect the circle. Regardless, I was happy with my result.
I quite enjoyed the example of when a photographer used the model's body to shadow the lights. It was a reverse shadow effect. So for my attempt, I decided I wanted to experiment with the body. We tried many different things such as devil horns in red and angel wings in white and this picture has got to be my best attempt. Acheiving a picture like this requires precise imagination and a quick hand.
In this picture I tried writing. I also played around with this, writing my name and other words but I thought to make this an artistic image I would just write the word that was printed on the model's shirt. I love this black and white effect it contrasts well together. The clothes, the background, the lighting and the colour of the L.E.D light.
I wanted to create an image that told a story so what I did was, work on my set first. I tried to achieve a half light and half dark set so I used a white background to add as much light as possible and a black curtain to bring more darkness to that side. I then drew one wing on the light side and moved my body slightly to make it blurred. The idea of the picture is half is in the light (the good side) and half is in the dark (the evil side). After achieveing this, I tried to add in a red L.E.D light to draw on a devils horn however I didnt find enough people to work with.
Finally, I found someone to work with and we tried a cartoon effect that we see in comic books. A light fight. Myself and emmanuel swung the lights in repetitive circles to 'fight' with eachother but have the light represent our strengths and combine together to create a powerful affect. This was the hardest affect as it required the two people to communicate well and follow the exact same instructions. However, this is what we had achieved in the end.
To conclude, I came to the realisation that many things are required when trying to achieve a successfull looking L.E.D photography effect.
- You must be in a very dark room for this to look more effective
- You will need atleast 2 other people working with you someone to operate the camera and someone extra if you want to create two effects at once or want an affect where your body must remain still.
- Finally, you must learn to work quick. If you cant work in rhythm of the time given by the camera, you wont achieve the full effect when attempting to create L.E.D pictures.
